Sea Stack #2 Matted Print
Between the fog and the sea stacks, Olympic National Park is a place I hope to return to one day. In this photo the tide was coming in and I thought I had missed my chance to get up onto this rock. I set the camera on a tripod on the beach and put it on a timer. The only way up onto this spot without going through water was to run around to the other side of the rock. As the timer was counting down I caught a lucky break as a big wave was just receding and I climbed onto the rock to get to this spot, unsure if I got there in time. After I was certain the amount of time on the timer had passed, I realized I had became stranded. I could see my tripod and camera on the beach but now big waves were coming in and preventing me from getting off the rock without getting my only pair of shoes and pants wet. I stayed on the rock for nearly 15 min waiting for the waves to die down, staring at my camera as people on the beach walked past it. Finally enough water had drained after a big wave that I made a leap and was able to get to sand. I raced back to my camera and was thrilled to see I had made it into the shot.
